Seri Support Centres in Finland

Seri Support Centres treat and help those who have experienced sexual violence

You can visit a support centre on your own or with a loved one, or be referred to one by an authority. Help is available under one roof at a Seri Support Centre.  If necessary, the support centre can refer the client to other special services that meet their needs.

Seri Support Centres offer

  • forensic examinations
  • medical treatment
  • trauma support
  • psychological counselling
  • referrals for further treatment, if necessary.

Seri Support Centres are open to anyone aged 16 and over, regardless of gender.  The examination and treatment are always free of charge for the client.

It is not necessary for persons aged 18 or over to report the incident to the police In order to undergo a forensic examination or to receive treatment, although it is encouraged.

You can reach out to a Seri Support Centre for one month after experiencing sexual violence. It is always a good idea to call the support centre in advance.

Seri Support Centres’ activities are based on the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, known as the Istanbul Convention. The agreement obliges countries to set up easily accessible support centres for victims of sexual violence.
